Days 7, 8, 9 - Sept 12, 13, 14 - Man down

Typical albergue wakeup. Some s.o.b. starts rustling through their stuff at 5 AM with their headlight on its highest setting so he can beat everyone else to the next albergue. I am told that there are an unusually large number of pilgrims this September because of bad weather earlier in the year and it is difficult to find a bed sometimes. Still that is no excuse for bad behavior.
I am limping badly and head out in the dark for the bus stop so I can get to Logroño and go to ground. I count twelve other pilgrims at the bus stop with various injuries. Ankles knees and blisters predominate, although exhaustion is clearly the case for a few. The bus pulls up at eight and the fare is less than $2. It takes 25 minutes to get to Logroño, a city of about 150,000 souls. I hail a cab and ask the driver to take me to a decent hotel downtown and off we go. He lets me out at a nice place which unfortunately was full and so was the next place. I finally find a room at the Hotel Portales and collapse. The next day I change to pension Saint Sebastian on a cool street named Calle San Juan. I basically just r & r for two more nights.
On Saturday, thanks to Slingbox and my Kindle Fire I watch the Tide beat A & M. Very cool.
Here are some shots from my hiatus in Logroño.

Serrano ham, the best! I am smuggling one home.

He can't handle the truth.

Tomorrow back on the Camino!
